Greg Watlington graduated Belmont University with a Bachelor of Music degree a long, long time ago.
After travelling the country and the world as a musician for a few years, he volunteered to be a tormented studio intern and worked on the side both as an engineer and a tech - repairing studio gear. From Neve BCM-10s, to Neumann U47s, and everything in-between, Greg cut his teeth diving into vintage gear and diagnosing the ghosts of christmas albums past that teased the most seasoned engineers across Nashville.
In 2014, longtime friend and Playback guru, Matt Payne asked Greg to join him and put his skills to work building Playback, Trigger, and Keyboard rigs for touring clients. The first build consisted of two 16 channel redundant trigger rigs for a huge, worldwide arena tour for.. (insert our favorite non-disclosure agreement here).
Since that time, Greg has built playback, drum trigger, and keyboard rigs and programmed showfiles for artists from all genres hailing from LA to NY and a good portion of those from Nashville. He has toured around the world with indie-rock acts and Rock and Roll Hall of Fame royalty.
In 2017, Greg and the "build" side of Built By Payne transitioned to become Closed Loop Creative - continuing to bring solutions that meet clients' vision - still earning his reputation as one of the best live DAW implementation artists in the music industry.
